The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey just recently concluded in Kuşadası on 18 April 2021. The tour, also known as the Marmara Tour, started in Cappadocia on 11 April, and is the only intercontinental cycling tour in the world. 1. Nevşehir to Cappadocia, Anatolia
The city of Nevşehir and the famous Cappadocia, which is in the province of Nevşehir, was the location of the first leg of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. Here you’ll find the buildings hewn into rocky hills that Cappadocia is famous for.
The capital of Konya Province, Konya has the second longest cycling track in the world, at 550km. The Konya region’s history goes back to the third millennium B.C., and was known as Iconium during the period known as the Classical Antiquity period. The mausoleum of the Persian poet Rumi is here in Konya.
3. Alanya to Kemer, Altanya
Situated in the country’s Mediterranean region, Alanya is a popular seaside destination that provides one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Turkey. Of course, general sightseeing or a coastal drive will bring just as much joy to anyone visiting this region.
4. Fethiye to Marmaris to Turgutreis
Fethiye, Marmaris and Turgutreis are all coastal and port towns with amazing views of the blue-green Mediterranean ocean. Definitely a destination to consider if you’re looking for sun, sand and vitamin sea.
This city was part of ancient Greece and has seen influences from many cultures including Greek, Persian, even European via the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St John, and Ottoman. The magnificent Bodrum Castle is a mainstay of the Bodrum coastal skyline, while the ruins of the Tomb of Mausolus provide interesting insight into the city’s Greek past.
